Privacy and terms

Who we are

Find a Class (findaclass.nl) is run by JRK Digital Media in the Netherlands. Write to info@hokimi.com for anything about this site; that address is also our contact point under the Digital Services Act.

Without an account

  • You can use the whole site without an account. It sets no advertising cookies, and no statistics cookies unless you say yes.
  • Statistics, only with your OK: we then use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland) to see which pages, searches, filters and buttons people use, so we can improve the site. It sets the cookies _ga and _ga_… for up to 14 months. It gets the page address and title, your language, and what you search, choose or click on the site (class and school names, cities, kinds of activity); never your name, e-mail address, phone number, postcode or position. Google signals and advertising features are off, and Google may process data in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Say no and nothing is loaded; change your choice any time under “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
  • When you give a place to look for classes (a town, city or postcode you type, or your location once you allow it), the site keeps it in a cookie, fac_where, on your device: the place’s name, a point for it and its city or region, so the classes around it show straight away next time. A typed place stays for 180 days. Your own location goes in rounded to about a kilometre and counts for 12 hours only. A second cookie, fac_city, remembers only the city or region for a year. When the site looks up classes, it sends that point, rounded to about a kilometre, with the request; it is used for that answer only and not stored or logged. If your browser already lets this site know your location, the site uses it without asking again; you can withdraw that in your browser settings.
  • Saved classes and the list of reports you sent stay in your browser on your own device (a school only learns that one of its classes was saved, not by whom). If you are signed in, your saved classes are kept with your account as well, so you see them on your other devices, until you remove them or erase the account. If you allow the site to use your location, the exact point, rounded to about 100 metres, is also kept in your browser for 12 hours to show distances on this device.
  • So schools can see how their page does, the site counts page views, cards shown and opened, clicks to a school’s website and saves. It uses no cookies: a reader is a scrambled code of address and browser that changes every day, so we cannot follow anyone from one day to the next. Raw counts go after 7 days; only daily totals stay. If you arrived through a link on another Hokimi site (such as hokimi.com), the count notes that site and nothing more. Other Hokimi sites send us only their daily totals per school and class, never anything about a reader. When you leave a page, the site also sends how long it was on screen and how far you scrolled, with no reader code and nothing stored on your device. How we count
  • We count the words people search for per day and city, and how often nothing was found, to learn which classes are missing. We keep only the words and counts, not who searched; e-mail addresses and phone numbers typed into a search are removed. Kept 180 days.
  • When you report a mistake we keep what you type and the page you sent it from. We remove e-mail addresses and phone numbers from the message and keep no name and no IP address with the report.
  • To stop abuse, our server counts reports and sign-in attempts per address for an hour, and its access logs, which include IP addresses, are kept for up to 14 days.

With an account

  • An account is optional and only for people aged 16 or older. It lets you follow your reports on any device.
  • We keep your e-mail address or the account id Google or Apple gives us, your nickname, your language and the date you confirmed being 16 or older. Your nickname is shown with what you write; your e-mail address never is. Reports you send while signed in are linked to your account.
  • Signing in sets one cookie, fac_sid, that keeps you signed in for up to 60 days. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of it and of your IP address, and delete it after the session ends.
  • Sign-in codes are sent by e-mail or text message through Bird, a Dutch messaging service, which receives your e-mail address or mobile number to deliver the code. If you sign in with a mobile number, we keep that number with your account and never show it. We store the code and the address or number used for it only in scrambled form; a code works for 10 minutes and is deleted within a day.
  • If you choose Google or Apple, their sign-in script loads only after you open the sign-in window. They tell us an account id and, if you allow it, your e-mail address. We never see your password.
  • After you sign up we send one welcome e-mail through Bird to the e-mail address of your account, if it has one; no newsletters or advertising follow.
  • When you write about a school we keep the text, your nickname, the facts you chose (such as your child’s age group) and the “helpful” marks you give. A post appears at once; we read new posts, remove what breaks the rules, and anyone can report a post. Rules for posts
  • Other Hokimi sites run by JRK Digital Media, such as hokimi.com, may show published posts. This is on for every account unless you turn it off on your account page. They receive the post, the facts you chose and your nickname, never your e-mail address, phone number or account id. When you turn this off, delete a post or delete your account, or we remove a post, those sites are told at once and take it down within 15 minutes.
  • Anyone who reports a post may add a name and e-mail address. We keep them apart from the post and delete them six months after our decision.
  • If you buy us a coffee, Stripe handles the payment and receives your bank or card details and e-mail address; Stripe sends the receipt. We keep only the amount, the date, the Stripe payment id, a scrambled code made from the e-mail address Stripe reports (so the accountant can add up one person’s gifts in a year, as Dutch gift-tax rules ask; the address itself is not kept) and, if you give one, the name for the thank-you list, which shows names and amounts only. If you are signed in when you give, the gift is linked to your account so you can see it under My support. We keep these payment records for 7 years because Dutch bookkeeping rules require it. Ask info@hokimi.com to take your name off the list, or for a refund within 30 days; a refunded gift leaves the list. Buy us a coffee
  • Account data is kept in a separate database on servers in the EU (Microsoft Azure, Belgium).
  • Posts are machine-translated so readers in the other languages can read them. Only the text of the post goes to the translation service (Microsoft Azure OpenAI, the Netherlands), never your name; it is not used to train models. What you wrote stays the original, one tap away.
  • You can delete your account at any time on your account page. Your e-mail address, phone number, sign-in ids and sessions are removed at once; posts that were never public are deleted, public posts stay under a neutral name (delete them first under My posts if you want them gone), and reports you sent stay without the link to you.

Your rights

You can ask us what we keep about you, and to correct or delete it. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Using the site

  • Classes, times, ages and prices come from the public websites of schools and clubs, as they were when we last checked. They can change: check with the school before you sign up.
  • Translations are made by a machine and always labelled; the original wins.
  • Maps come from Google and load only when you press “Show on the map”; from then on Google receives your internet address and its own terms apply. Until you press it, nothing goes to Google.
  • When we invite a school to manage its page, we write to the e-mail address on its own website. We keep that address encrypted only to send the sign-in code, and delete it when the invitation is used or a month after it expired.
  • We don’t sell classes and aren’t part of any agreement between you and a school. Nobody can pay for a higher place in the results.
  • A school that finds a mistake in its details can tell us with “Report a fix” or at info@hokimi.com, and we correct it as soon as we have checked it. We remove a whole school page only when the school has closed or the details are wrong; otherwise public information about a class stays listed, with its source.
  • Anyone can ask us to delete personal data about them, and report content they believe is illegal with our notice form. Notice form (DSA)
