How we count
Schools see how their page does. These are the numbers, and how we keep them honest and private.
What each number means
- Page views
- Readers who opened a school’s page and actually saw it (a tab left in the background does not count).
- Cards seen
- A class card that was at least half on the screen for a second.
- Cards opened
- A reader tapped a class to read the details.
- Clicks to the website
- A reader followed the link to the school’s own website. The links go straight there; nothing is added to them.
- Saves
- A reader saved a class with the star. The list itself stays on the reader’s device.
- Questions
- Questions people asked about the school.
- Click rate
- Clicks to the website divided by page views plus opened classes: how many of the readers who looked closer went on to the school.
- Time on the page
- When a reader leaves a page, the browser sends how many seconds it was on screen and how far down the reader scrolled, and nothing else: no reader code, nothing kept on the device, so a return visit is never recognised. Schools see the time in bands and how many read to the end.
- Searches that showed the classes
- For cards seen and opened, the city or place, activity, age and day the reader had chosen. The words a reader types are never kept with it.
One reader counts once a day
Reloading a page a hundred times still counts as one view that day. A reader is a scrambled code made from their internet address and browser, with a key that changes every day and is then thrown away, so the same person cannot be recognised the next day. We use no cookies and no advertising or analytics companies.
Robots do not count
Only a real browser that runs the site counts. Search engines, link checkers and other automated visitors are left out, so a school’s numbers do not rise when a crawler passes.
How long we keep it
The individual counts are deleted after 7 days; after that only daily totals per page and class remain.
Across the Hokimi network
A school can also appear on other Hokimi sites, such as hokimi.com. Each site counts its own readers the same way, and sends findaclass only the daily totals per school and class, never anything about a reader. The school’s numbers add those totals up, so the same person reading on two sites counts twice. When a reader arrives on findaclass through a Hokimi link, the page view notes that site, and nothing else.
The middle of the group
Next to its own numbers a school sees the median: half of the schools with the same main activity had that many page views or fewer in the last 30 days.
